Answering your questions about the 2007 HKCEE

How is the 2007 HKCEE different from the existing HKCEE?   Take a look at our comparison table.

Is this the final format of the 2007 HKCEE?   Yes, the public exam will follow this format.

What about SBA?

Details of the assessment process have now been finalized. For further details, refer to the links below.

Should my school purchase all the books and videos on the HKEAA's recommended reading and viewing list for SBA?

Absolutely not. The focus of assessment is speaking. Choose print and non-print texts that are appropriate to your students' interests and abilities.

Start by establishing an extensive reading scheme if you don't already have one. Hong Kong University links to some useful resources here:
http://web.hku.hk/~sbapro/resources5.html.

For guidance on choosing appropriate readers, visit the Oxford Progressive English Readers website www.oupchina.com.hk/elt/oper/.

What about my existing textbook?

Make sure you have a textbook that supports skills development and includes integrated exam practice.

New Progress www.oupchina.com.hk/elt/newprogress/ is an excellent choice.

How is SRA different from the existing method of assessment?   Under standards-referenced assessment (SRA), candidates' results will not be affected by the performance of other candidates taking the same examination because each of the five levels of achievement (5 being the highest) against which candidates' performance is assessed has a prescribed standard but no predetermined quota.

Will the 2007 HKCEE change after the implementation of the 3+3+4 curriculum?   The current exam is expected to be a model for the forthcoming Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) to be examined at the end of Senior Secondary Three under the new curriculum.

For information on 3+3+4, visit EMB website
www.emb.gov.hk/index.aspx?langno=1&nodeid=4003.

Will the last batch of HKCEE candidates in 2009 be able to sit for the HKCEE again in 2010 or attend the Senior Secondary classes under the new structure?   HKEAA may conduct a supplementary HKCEE for S5 repeaters in 2010. Special arrangement will be considered for schools to admit repeaters at new Senior Secondary Two level for students who wish to pursue studies under the new Senior Secondary academic structure.

What will happen to HKDSE private candidates with no SBA scores?   Their final result will be based entirely on their examination result and annotated accordingly.

Are there supplementary materials that match my current coursebook and emphasize the skills required for the exam?   You may like to consider Exam Skills Now www.oupchina.com.hk/elt/examskills/.
