Business Development Director Asia
We are both a department of the University of Oxford and a major international publishing organization with a significant presence in Hong Kong. We have the following vacancies:
Business Development Director Asia
Reporting to the Head of Global Business Development, the Business Development Director, Asia, who will station either in Hong Kong or Beijing, is responsible for developing appropriate licensing strategies, building strong relationships with digital licensing partners in the technology sector and beyond, and for overseeing the effective implementation of those strategies.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement plans and business models for customers, channels, and product lines that maximize impact for all areas of the company.
  • Play a lead role in developing major new deals and in developing outstanding relationships with key customers in Asia. Turn small deals into big ones.
  • Work with all functions and stakeholders as needed, including legal to negotiate robust and clear agreements that last, and with Finance to create, monitor, and hit budgets.
  • Lead, manage, appoint, develop, and retain the Asia Global Business Development team to generate a strong entrepreneurial spirit and expertise in customer interaction (especially face to face), deal making, appropriate technological savvy, and internal relationship skills, with an equally strong emphasis on behaving with integrity and ethically at all times, following compliance and code of conduct policies and procedures.
  • Work closely and communicate effectively with a range of internal stakeholders from different divisions and geographies.
Requirements:
  • Experience of licensing and business development and negotiating agreements in Asia
  • Experience of working with technology companies, and educational, academic, and dictionary/language content
  • Knowledge of contracts, intellectual property, and rights associated with such content
  • An engaging, persuasive and compelling leadership style, with the ability to lead, coach and support teams to set and achieve ambitious goals
  • Sound financial and commercial understanding
  • Working with high ethical integrity and professionalism
  • Frequent travel, both within Asia and to Oxford, U.K.
