We are both a department of the University of Oxford and a major international publishing organization with a significant presence in Hong Kong. We have the following vacancies:
Editorial Director (Humanities, Maths and Science)
Job Responsibilities
To oversee all HMS (Humanities, Maths and Science) Division management matters and provide directives, reviews, reports, recommendations and necessary professional contributions so that a profitable and growing body of quality, marketable HMS publishing projects for the relevant market are completed consistently and satisfactorily. To participate in OUP management efforts and provide managerial input so that the mission and operational objectives of OUP are fulfilled.
  • Provide timely and effective operational directives to the HMS Division based on acute understanding of market development and alignment with OUP mission goals and business objectives.
  • Interpret research results and collective intelligence generated among the HMS Division and other internal and external parties to develop publishing plans, formulate competitive strategies and design/proposal of winning products/services.
  • Maintain, update and enhance workflows, standard operating procedures (SOP), best practices, and quality assurance measures so that the best professional practices are employed to deliver products of the highest possible quality on time.
  • Manage the recruitment, deployment and training of staff in the HMS team so that there is an orderly supply of editorial staff who are able to tackle the changing needs of HMS and OUP at all levels.
  • Supervise and conduct coaching, career development and mentoring programmes so that there is an orderly succession for key positions in the HMS team, and positive sharing of publishing knowledge with other teams.
  • Create and maintain an uplifting working environment for HMS staff, so that proactive attitude and motivated performance is sustained.
  • Project, recommend and manage budgets, resource acquisition and deployment plans so that the benefit from monetary and resource investments are maximized.
  • Manage the commissioning, employment and development of a network of HMS authors, experts, consultants, and freelance contributors so that a steady pool of external talent is available to HMS projects.
  • Coach and support HMS staff in conducting positive and mutually-supportive communication with internal departments and external collaborators so that publishing projects achieve higher quality and better efficiency, and staff gain a more uplifting working experience.
  • Develop, manage and maintain good relationship with EDB, subject-related scholars, opinion leaders and teachers so that cooperation and collaboration with different parties can be established.
  • Promote and participate in beneficial HMS activities in the community so that trust in OUP and its positive image is continually enhanced.
  • Performance appraisals for the Editorial Director will be conducted by the General Manager with reference to the above measures.
Requirements
  • University degree, preferably in related disciplines
  • 10-years related editorial experience, preferably in educational publishing
  • Open attitude and resourcefulness, to gather, integrate, filter, and direct collective intelligence for strategy formulation
  • Creativity in both business practice and artistic impact upon readers and users
  • Positive and enthusiastic attitude to team leadership and team building
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills; presentation and public speaking skills
  • Excellent anticipation in planning; skilled at organization and multitasking
  • Good financial management skills
  • Excellent command of English and Chinese
Assistant Marketing Manager
Job Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with different business units and external parties including agencies to plan and execute effective corporate marketing campaigns in Hong Kong and China.
  • Plan and monitor the execution of marketing campaigns to promote products/programs to target markets to achieve objectives and goals.
  • Propose, plan and ensure marketing activities and events such as parents' workshop, Hong Kong Book Fair, Baby Expo to run smoothly with proper allocation of resources and efficient use of marketing budget.
  • Devise event concept/theme with target audience in mind, from planning to post event analysis.
  • Achieve the planned event goals in terms of lead generation, traffic, customer satisfaction and sales impact.
  • Identify and evaluate potential challenges and opportunities, and respond promptly to the trends.
  • Execute market research for product promotions and react promptly to market needs in a competitive environment.
  • Prepare business reports and evaluate the effectiveness of marketing campaigns
  • Lead and develop a strong team and maintain outstanding team performance to meet the business growth.
Requirements:
  • 10 years' experience in marketing with proven success and track record in driving business.
  • University graduate in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or related disciplines.
  • A motivator who can coach and lead team members to achieve targets.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiar with the education sector, consumer marketing, and/or the educational publishing industry.
  • Excellent command of English, Cantonese and Mandarin, both written and spoken .

Permissions Officer
Job Responsibilities:
  • Research and secure literary and photo permissions for inclusion in educational and trade texts.
  • Ensure literary and photo permissions are secured within budget with a sense of financial responsibility on cost control.
  • Ensure copyright page or copyright acknowledgements are written accurately
  • Process permission requests and prepare permission agreements on a timely manner.
  • Administrate the in-house permission system and collaborate with colleagues on projects.
  • Clearly record and archive attributes of literary, photos and artwork etc. into DAM so they can be retrieved easily when required.
Requirements:
  • Higher Diploma or above with 2 years’ experience
  • Able to work independently with strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Good written English and Chinese
  • Computer literate
Production Assistant
Job Responsibilities:
  • Assist Production Controller in producing cost estimates, printing orders and oversee the production schedules using production system (ACE)
  • Maintain the data files in the digital asset management system (DAM)
  • Distribute advanced copies to various departments and be responsible in archiving sample copies
  • Liaise with printers and services vendors on stock delivery according to agreed schedules
  • Ensure that production schedules, progress reports and paper reports are updated in ACE or SAP in timely manner
  • Collaborate with the design team in producing and checking PDF before press
Requirements:
  • Form 7 and above
  • Knowledge of prepress and print production
  • Willing to learn and work in a dedicated team
  • Computer literate, excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Basic command in English and Chinese
  • Knowledge about desktop publishing software desirable
Designer
Job Responsibilities:
  • Design for book covers from concept, through visual, to finished artwork from written design briefs
  • Design for book layouts and typography, including occasional production of diagram and illustrations
  • Design for marketing materials including leaflets, brochures, catalogues and display boards
  • Work with freelance illustrators and other design team members in implementing books designs
  • Provide final designs in required format for printing and production of books according to deadlines
  • Liaise with Production Manager to ensure the printing quality standards are met and deal with any issues that may arise
  • Collaborate with the digital team on interface design and eBook production
Requirements:
  • Polytechnic/Design institute graduate in visual communication
  • A minimum of 2 year graphic arts or related experience in publishing industry
  • Knowledge of prepress, print production and design trends
  • Proficiency of all graphic programs, including InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Proactive, creative and attentive to details
  • Good interpersonal skills and able to work in teams
  • Able to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment
  • Good command of both spoken and written English
Senior Accounting Assistant
Job Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for financial accounting of the company, A/P, Fixed Assets and GL functions in particular
  • Check and process payment vouchers and invoices
  • Responsible for staff purchases and staff petty cash claims
  • Prepare intercompany billing and reconciliations
  • Create and maintain fixed asset register
  • Prepare for month-end closing
  • Prepare reconciliation and analyze key account balances and transactions
  • Provide supporting documentation for internal, external and hub control audits
  • Co-ordinate with team members and support the initiatives for workflow and process improvement; and system enhancement
  • Work on ad-hoc projects as directed by supervisor
Requirements:
  • Diploma or above with related disciplines in Accounting or Finance
  • 5 years solid commercial experience with audit experience an advantage
  • Practical experience in SAP and electronic banking is preferred
  • Computer proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and Chinese Word Processing
  • Fluent English and Mandarin
  • Good team player and able to interact with people at all levels;
  • Highly organized and able to work independently and meet tight deadline
Accountant
Job Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for financial accounting of the company, A/R and GL functions in particular
  • Responsible for sales commission accrual, payment and deferred income analysis
  • Responsible for Subsidiary accounting
  • In charge of credit control function
  • Prepare accounting close routines for month end
  • Prepare monthly accounts of subsidiary for group consolidation
  • Assist in budgeting and forecasting
  • Prepare reconciliation and analyze key account balances and transactions
  • Regularly review the accounting processes for internal control compliance, risk assessment and process improvement
  • Co-ordinate with team members and support the initiatives for workflow and process improvement; and system enhancement
  • Ensure compliance for group accounting policies and liaise with auditors for statutory audit and internal audit
  • Work on ad-hoc projects as directed by supervisor
Requirements:
  • University graduate major in Finance or Accounting
  • HKICPA or ACCA qualified or equivalent
  • 5 years solid commercial experience with audit experience an advantage
  • Flexible, able to work independently under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Good team player and able to interact with people at all levels
  • Practical experience in SAP, FICO certified preferred
  • Computer proficiency with advanced MS Excel skill
  • Fluent English and Mandarin
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a team player; highly organized and able to work independently and under pressure
