Oxford Primary English Seminar—OUP approach to effective English language learning and teaching in a new era

To provide teachers with a complete solution to unleash the potential of language learners, OUP organized the second Primary English seminar on Saturday, 17 March 2018. Patrick Sir, TV programme host of TVB’s ‘After School’ and the MC of the seminar, expressed his appreciation for the amazing adherence of the new coursebooks Living Oxford English (LOE) and Ready to the curriculum guidelines updated in November 2017.

After the opening remarks by Ms Ng Mei Mei, General Manager of OUP, a lively role-play was conducted by the ELT Editorial team to demonstrate how teachers can shape life-long learners in a new era. Under the mix and match notion, the use of either coursebook provides teachers with access to four learning packages, namely the Enrichment package and the Learner diversity combo, in addition to all the teaching and learning materials in both coursebook series. Among all the resources, it is worth mentioning that the comprehensiveness of our packages provide teachers with a wide range of reading and writing activities so as to reinforce the process from language input to output.

e-Learning, one of the highlights in both coursebooks, was brought into the discussion by the keynote speaker, Mr Serling Shaffer Wu, Senior Lecturer II from The Education University of Hong Kong. He emphasized how technology helps us extend the impact of English lessons by making teaching moments and information accessible in and beyond the classroom.

Another essential curriculum update, Reading across the curriculum,  is also embedded into the coursebooks through STREAM education. Mr Andy Li, Curriculum Leader of PLK Dr. Jimmy Wong Chi-Ho (Tin Sum Valley) Primary School, values teachers’ role as a learning facilitator, inspiring students to unleash their creative talents through extensive reading and learning experiences.

The seminar was enthusiastically received. Teachers were impressed by the student-centered and teacher-friendly materials in LOE and Ready. OUP again proves itself to be one of the most professional and up-to-date educational publishers worldwide.
