FAQ

What is the difference between RWI by Oxford and other English language programmes?

  • RWI by Oxford is the integrated English language programme that uses synthetic phonics. Learning begins with the familiarization of the 44 pure sounds unique to RWI. The acquisition of these sounds provides all the tools with which to decode and pronounce every word in the English language. RWI by Oxford seamlessly integrates the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing to ensure children aged 4 and above learn English most efficiently and effectively. Oxford University Press closely monitors the quality of tutors and lessons, which distinguishes this course from other English-learning programmes.

How does RWI by Oxford help children learn English?
  • RWI by Oxford is the comprehensive English programme that seamlessly integrates its 44 pure sounds with reading and writing exercises in each lesson. Its highly systematic approach reinforces memory and facilitates rapid learning. Phonics skills have been proven to be essential in the building and sustaining of complete and correct English pronunciation – the first step in expanding a child’s vocabulary. The programme further fosters children’s interest in learning English with storybook reading and writing exercises.

How effective is partner work?
  • Partner work is key to the learning process as 90% of learning is cemented through the teaching of others. Partner work provides the opportunity for practising speaking and listening, as well as nurturing interpersonal skills. It also acts as a fun confidence builder and allows time for interactive discussion. Through partner work the children take turns to guide each other, preparing early for leadership and communication skills essential for future success.

How can I help my child improve their English at home?

Encourage children to read out loud and praise them when they do a good job. This will help children develop confidence in their new skills and foster a love of reading.

How will I know how my child is progressing in class?
