How effective is RWI by Oxford in the UK?

  • In September 2006 the UK Ministry of Education made it a legal requirement for all schools to teach synthetic phonics in their formal curriculum. Today, over 4,700 schools in the UK have adopted this programme
  • An independent study in the UK demonstrates that non-native English students using RWI by Oxford show considerable improvement in their English ability
  • The study indicates that students significantly improve their performance in Standard Assessment Tests (SATs) after being a part of the programme. For example, at Maryland Primary School, reading ability of students increased from 59% in 2005 to 92% in 2007, while their writing ability rose from 50% to 87%
  • A documentary mini-series called Last Chance Kids on Channel 4 in the UK shows how students at a school in East London dramatically and rapidly improved their English reading and writing skills, through following RWI by Oxford

Why have we brought RWI by Oxford to Hong Kong?

  • Strong language skills are an absolute advantage, especially in a competitive city like Hong Kong
  • English continues to be one of today’s most widely-used languages, particularly in the world of business. Good language skills will ultimately provide children with an edge in their academic and career futures
  • RWI by Oxford’s seamless integration of the 44 pure sounds, storybooks, writing exercises and stimulating activities, has been proven to develop students’ interest in reading and ‘learning to learn’

Quality Assurance

Qualified tutors

  • RWI by Oxford trains and supervises tutors very closely. All our tutors are native English speakers and those with experience in teaching English as a second language are preferrable
  • Tutors will be trained by our RWI by Oxford experts from the UK to ensure they meet our strict standards before they begin teaching
  • OUP carries out observation of our tutors. This allows us to provide supportive feedback to tutors so they can constantly improve their teaching skills and ensure the quality of your child’s education

Student Assessment

  • All students are required to take a pre-assessment test so that they can be grouped into classes according to English language competence. This allows tutors to customize the teaching materials and content of the class
  • To make sure your child is getting the most out of each lesson, we record his/her progress and carry out assessments regularly
  • Once your child has completed a level, the tutor will assess his/her performance for moving up to the next level. A certificate will be given to the children who have successfully completed a level of the programme and fulfilled certain requirement
