Vocabulary Booklet
  • There are green words, red words and story vocabulary included in the booklets.
  • The booklets are designed according to the levels, and there are 5 booklets refer to Foundation, Elementary, Intermediate, Advanced and Upper-advanced Levels.
Speed Sound Booklet
  • The newly designed Speed Sound Booklets perfectly match to the new edition of RWI materials.
  • There are refreshing practices which help students consolidate their phonics skills and vocabulary learnt.

  • The programme familiarizes children with the 44 pure sounds and teaches them the skills of sounds blending and segmenting, in order to build a solid foundation of English pronunciation
  • Each pure sound is represented with a letter and/or a particular group of letters such as ‘a’, ‘i’, ‘ch’, ‘th’ and ‘se’. By blending these pure sounds, children will be able to pronounce English words correctly. Once your child has mastered the 44 pure sounds and the skills of how to blend and segment them, he/she will be able to spell and pronounce English words at speed, accurately and without difficulty
Goal
  • To speak English with confidence and accurate pronunciation

  • RWI by Oxford is the only English language programme that seamlessly integrates the unique 44 pure sounds with storybooks and writing exercises. It ensures early success in listening, speaking, reading and writing by providing a systematic and comprehensive approach to teaching the skills and grammar knowledge with lively resources that enhance students’ experience
  • To foster students’ interests in learning English, the programme engages each individual student in reading storybooks, using the skills of sound blending and writing simple sentences with the words they read in the stories
Goals
  • To expand children’s vocabulary and improve their performance in spelling and accuracy in unseen dictation
  • To provide children with the decoding skills necessary to become confident and fluent readers, thus helping them achieve the objective of learning to learn

  • Partner work gives children more opportunities to practise speaking and listening, as well as interpersonal skills. It also allows them to interact with tutors and hold discussions amongst themselves
Goal
  • To help children master the stress and intonation patterns in English, and develop basic interpersonal and communication skills

  • All children are required to take a pre-assessment test for the purpose of competency-based grouping. Graded teaching materials are subject to the needs of each individual class
Goal
  • To customize lessons and maximize learning and efficiency for every child

How does RWI by Oxford help improve children’s English ability?

RWI by Oxford uses synthetic phonics as a foundation and helps children build up English language skills step by step.

Step 1

Step 2
  Step 3

Introduce all 44 pure sounds and help children develop the skills of blending and segmenting.

After learning the skills of blending and segmenting, children will be able to apply the phonic knowledge to reading and spelling. To be able to decode and thus read a word will, in turn, stimulate an interest in the meaning of it. At this stage, we will focus on reading and comprehension skills. Children acquire new words and concepts by reading more books, which broadens their vision and inspires thinking.

Comprehension comes once children have become confident readers. We then focus on developing writing skills step by step, from short sentences to guided compositions to creative writing. The writing activities linked to the texts allow children to use a wide vocabulary they learnt and further brush up their skills in language usage.

By end of the course, your child will be able to:

  • Learn 44 pure sounds through interactive activities

  • Learn the skills of sounds blending and segmenting

  • Write the corresponding letters and letter groups of the 44 pure sounds

  • Read and write simple sentences

  • Apply phonics knowledge to storybook reading

  • Develop comprehension skills through questions and discussions

  • Learn to write simple sentences and compose stories based on picture strips and discussion prompts
