Thanks to all the support from OUP Authorised Centres, students, and parents, Oxford Big Read has been brought to a successful close. The Oxford Big Read competition winners are listed below. Prizes will be presented to all winners at the OUP Courses Outstanding Students Award ceremony in February 2020.

Background and Details

In order to encourage self-directed reading in children, especially English books, Oxford University Press (OUP) has organized Oxford Big Read. Those who are enrolled in the RWI by Oxford and/or C&W by Oxford programme from any OUP authorized learning centres are welcome to participate. Oxford Big Read aims to promote the love of reading English books among children, and provides a platform for children to showcase their learning achievements.

Objectives
 
‧ To encourage children in self-directed reading and to promote the love of reading
‧ To help children in building a solid foundation in learning English and expanding their vocabulary
‧ To showcase children’s learning outcome through the competition.

Campaign
 
This is the first time that OUP launches a large-scale reading campaign in Hong Kong – Oxford Big Read, the campaign has 2 sections, Reading and Competition, participants can choose either one or both to join. You may redeem prizes by earning stamps with a completed reading log. You may also showcase your talent by participating in competitions. The outstanding pieces of work will also be selected to participate in the Asia competition, so that children may compete with contestants from all over Asia!

1. Reading
The reading section starts from 13 July to 30 September, 2019. Upon tutors’ verification of a completed reading log, 1 stamp will be rewarded, 2 stamps will be rewarded for 2 reading logs, and so on. After earning the required number of stamps, participants can redeem gifts within 1 September to 19 October, 2019, you will also receive a certificate of honor given by the OUP.

2. Competition
To participate in the competition, please acquire the project forms from the person in charge of the OUP Authorized Learning Centres. The competition is divided into 3 groups; Kindergarten (K1 to K3), Junior Primary (P1 to P3) and Senior Primary (P4 to P6). The following are the competition topic of each group:

Kindergarten (K1 to K3) – OUP Book Poster
Junior Primary (P1 to P3) - OUP Book Cover
Senior Primary (P4 to P6) - OUP Book Review

The panel of judges from OUP will select 2 contestants from each group to receive "Best OUP Book Poster", "Best OUP Book Cover" and “Best OUP Book Review” awards. Winners will be invited to the annual awards ceremony to receive a certificate of honor, HK$1,000 scholarship and a collection of OUP books stacked up to your height! The outstanding pieces of work will also be selected to participate in the Asia competition, so that children may compete with contestants from all over Asia!

The following are the competition topics of each group (submission deadline: 16 Nov 2019) :

Kindergarten (K1 to K3) – OUP Book Poster
Contestants need to design a book poster for an OUP book they have read. Imagine the chosen book is about to be published, and design a book poster to introduce it to others. Key information about the book like the book cover, title, author, illustration, etc. should be included. Contestants may draw inspirations from a real book poster to ensure they have included everything needed. They can also draw their favourite character or scene from the story in the book poster. Use your imagination to make your project stand out!

Project forms are suggested to be printed in A4 format. Before submitting your piece of work, please make sure that you have included your personal information, book title and author.

Junior Primary (P1 to P3) - OUP Book Cover
Contestants need to design a book cover for an OUP book they have read, including key information about the book like the book title, author, illustration, book spine, etc. Contestants may draw inspiration from a real book cover to ensure they have included everything needed. They may also draw their favourite character or scene from the story as the book cover. In addition, please use 10 to 50 words to explain the reason for choosing this book. Use your imagination to make your project stand out!

Project forms are suggested to be printed in A4 format. Before submitting your piece of work, please make sure that you have included your personal information, book title and author.

Senior Primary (P4 to P6) - OUP Book Review
Contestants need to write a book review on an OUP book, one that they love or would like to share with others. Maybe it's a book that inspired them or one that they just couldn't put down. Using 100 to 300 words, contestants need to share with us their thoughts and comments about the book as well as what they would change about the story if they could and why. Use your imagination to make your project stand out!

To participate in the Oxford Big Read campaign, please download and submit the completed application form by email to LDconsultantsHK@oup.com ; or you may ask the person in charge of your OUP Authorized Learning Centres for more information.

Books
During the reading section, you can borrow English books from the Oxford Bookshelf in OUP Authorized Learning Centres or libraries, and use the “Oxford Passport” to record your own reading history. The campaign has no restrictions on content or classification of books, but they need to be in English.

If students want to participate in the competition, they must select one OUP book to participate. Books can be borrowed from Oxford Bookshelf at OUP Authorized Learning Centres or from libraries. For details, please ask the person in charge of OUP Authorized Learning Centres for more information.
