Oxford University Press Global Product Director of Education Division Speaks at Hong Kong Book Fair 2025’s International Publishing Forum
Oxford University Press (OUP) was honoured to be invited to speak at the annual International Publishing Forum organized by the Hong Kong Trade and Development Council and the Hong Kong Publishing Federation Limited on 17 July 2025.
The International Publishing Forum this year focused on the discussion of AI and Publishing. The event opened with remarks by Anita Wan, Convenor of the Book Fair Committee of the Hong Kong Publishing Federation. Featured speakers included Xin Guangwei, former Editor-in-Chief of People’s Publishing House; Qu Hongbin, Director and President of Guomai Culture and Media Co., Ltd; and Wayne Press, Global Product Director of Oxford University Press Education Division. The Q&A session that followed, moderated by Chan Ka-yeung, Director of City University of Hong Kong Press, was lively and in-depth, exploring how the publishing industry can respond to the opportunities and challenges posed by AI.
Wayne Press, our Global Product Director of Education Division, shared insights on how applying AI in educational resources can significantly reduce teachers’ preparation time for lessons and assist students to better manage their own learning progress. In his address, he pointed out the importance of balancing innovation with responsibility and said: “We design products which consist of up-to-date technologies to facilitate teaching and learning. However, it is our responsibility to be the gatekeeper ensuring AI works accurately and ethically”.
He also emphasised that Oxford University Press is committed to harnessing the power of technology to support educators and learners worldwide. The Press continues to explore how AI can enhance educational outcomes while upholding the highest standards of integrity, accuracy, and ethical responsibility.
